Animal health signifies how an animal is adjusting with the conditions in which it lives. A good state of welfare is depicted if an animal is healthy, comfortable, well nourished, safe, able to express innate behaviour, and if it is not suffering from any unpleasant states such as pain, fear, and distress. Animal welfare refers to the state of the animal; the treatment that an animal receives such as animal care, animal husbandry, and humane treatment. Good animal welfare demands disease prevention and veterinary treatment, appropriate shelter, management, nutrition, humane handling.

Veterinary epidemiology is the field that is concerned with the study of health and disease within populations and the various underlying factors that lead to these conditions, with a goal of preventing the spread of such future incidents of illness (it may also be used for investigation of issues for eg animal welfare and productivity). Veterinary epidemiology also involves the investigation of different patterns of disease within a population, in relation to which animals are affected, the spatial distribution of affected animals, and the temporal distribution of affected animals (i.e. patterns of disease through time). It is thus considered the cornerstone of public health, productive medicine, and preventive medicine.
Veterinary vaccines have a main goal to improve the health and welfare of companion animals, increase production of livestock in a cost effective manner, and also prevent animal-to-human transmission from both domestic animals and wildlife. These diverse aims have led to various approaches to the development of veterinary vaccines from crude but effective whole-pathogen preparation to molecularly defined subunit vaccine, genetically engineered organisms or chimeras, vectored antigen formulations, and naked DNA injections.
Infection prevention aims to ensure the protection of those who might be vulnerable to acquiring any infection both in the general community or while receiving care due to health problems, in a range of settings. Infection control in health care is of utmost importance for preparedness and response to outbreaks.
Veterinary Medicines is the science that deals with the maintenance of health and the prevention, alleviation, diagnosis, treatment and cure of disease and injury in animals, especially domestic animals. Aside from diagnosing and treating sick and injured animals, veterinarians also prevent the transmission of animal diseases to people. Veterinarians work to ensure a safe food supply by maintaining the proper health of agricultural animals and by inspecting food processing industries. Veterinarians are also involved in the preservation of wildlife.
Animal disease is principally concerned to disease to which animals are liable and whereby the normal functions of any organ or any body part of an animal is impaired or disturbed by any protozoon, bacterium, virus, fungus, parasite, other organism or agent All animal diseases have the potential to adversely affect human populations by reducing the quantity and quality of food, other livestock products such as hides, skins, fibres. Transboundary Animal Diseases (TADs) are epidemic disease which are highly contagious or transmissible and have the potential for very rapid spread, irrespective of national borders, causing serious socio-economic. These diseases which cause a high morbidity and mortality in susceptible animal population, constitute a constant threat to the livelihood of livestock farmers. Furthermore, their potential consequences have such a magnitude that their occurrence may also have a significant detrimental effect on national economies.
Animal breeding is the process concerned with the selective mating of animals with desirable genetic traits, so as to maintain or enhance valuable traits in future generations. ANIMAL breeding is the application of the principles of GENETICS and biometry. For livestock, this involves the estimation of the genetic value for traits including growth rate and yield of products such as eggs, milk or meat.
Diagnosis covers areas such as laboratory and clinical management of microbial diseases, epidemiology and pathogenesis of infections, and automation in the diagnostic microbiology laboratory, and antibiotic susceptibility testing. Bacterial infections is treated by administering antibiotics. Yeast infections can be primarily treated by sterilisation methods. Parasitic infections is treated by antiparasitic drugs. Diseases such as Cancer can be treated by Chemotherapy. Recent techniques is approval that there is no disease that cannot be treated.

Clinical veterinary is concerned with diagnoses and treats pets, animals, and livestock. Veterinarians do research to enhance the spectrum of knowledge on animal biology and animal science. Clinical veterinarians help animals with health problems, infections, illnesses, wounds, and fractures
There is a high level of care required in diagnosing and treating animals. The Veterinary Services industry is labor intensive. All areas of operation of an animal hospital require a significant input of knowledge and skill. Veterinarians are well educated and possess high level of skill, which results in elevated wage costs. Support is required in the area of registering the animal on arrival at the hospital and receiving payments as well as taking samples, exercising, feeding, grooming and cleaning animals.
Poultry is involved in basic biological research on genetics , biochemistry and diseases. Poultry is a major source of various food commodity eaten around the globe in high quantity such as chicken, turkey, eggs, or other poultry products. With the popularity of these food, careers in poultry and associated industries abound. Poultry Sciences study not only pre-veterinary medicine, but they also work to improve the quality of the animals whose products we eat, such as those of cows, chickens, and pigs.
Veterinary biochemistry is the study of cellular processes at the molecular level: Proteins, enzymes and membranes. Energy changes in chemical reactions. In veterinary education and research, biochemistry is highly relevant to understand the metabolism and functions of animals in their healthy and diseased state, and forms the basis for an intelligent understanding of major aspects in veterinary science and animal husbandry. Hence the need for adequate recognition of the value of biochemistry in veterinary education cannot be over emphasized.
Dairy technology is a highly specialised field today which involves production, procurement, storage, processing and distribution of dairy products. Dairy farming includes breeding and care of milk yielding cattle, procuring milk and processing of milk into a various types of dairy products. Dairy products is a major exporting industry The main jobs are in production and processing. Production process include the collection of milk, breeding of high yielding cattle and taking care of the animals.
"Ornithology" is derived from the ancient Greek ornis ("bird") and logos ("rationale" or "explanation"). Ornithology is thus a branch of zoology that concerns the study of birds. This study on birds have helped develop several key concept in evolution, behaviour and ecology such as the process of speciation, ecological niches, guilds, biogeography, phylogeography and conservation

There are many specialties in Veterinary Medicine that are similar to those in human medicine, like Radiology, Medicine, Surgery, and Emergency and Critical Care. Key responsibilities include diagnosing illnesses in a variety of animals, prescribing the appropriate treatment, knowing the laws surrounding animals and their welfare. Veterinary surgery procedures fall into three broad categories: orthopaedics (bones, joints, muscles), soft tissue surgery (skin, body cavities, cardiovascular system, GI, respiratory tracts ,urogenital etc), and neurosurgery.
In the fermented dairy products lactic acid bacteria (LAB) growth and metabolic activities are needed to assure a high-quality end product. These microorganisms produce lactic acid via lactose fermentation, which leads to a rapid decrease in pH. Cheese and fermented milk product depends, largely, on this factor, which is also crucial for ensuring control of pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms
Stem cells promise potential for the development of new therapeutic strategies to fight against diseases and injuries of animals and humans. Veterinarians have made immense fundamental contributions in understanding the biological potential and clinical application of stem cells, including early studies on mouse embryonic stem cells, derivation of the first human stem cell line, and studies that led to the development of induced pluripotent stem cells.
Animal products and by-products must be prescribed in a regulation so that there is certainty at a provincial level about application of disease control measures to specific items including how to process, transport, store and dispose of them.

Animal physiology is the science of study of the life-supporting properties, or more specifically the physical and chemical processes that occur within animals. It is also concerned with the functions and processes of animals or their parts. This discipline also covers key homeostatic processes, such as the regulation of temperature, blood flow and hormones. Examples of these processes are gas exchange, blood and circulation, osmoregulation, digestion, nervous and muscle systems and endocrinology.

Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is a large and diverse set of systems of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention based on various philosophies and techniques other than those used in conventional Western medicine, and are often derived from traditions of medical practice used in other, non-Western cultures. Such practices may be described as alternative that exists as as a replacement for conventional Western medicine, or complementary, that is, used in addition to conventional Western practice.
Animal testing is a necessary evil; it is indispensable and inevitable. It should be viewed in a broader perspective. Laws and regulatory practices of the ethics committees must be strictly enforced. Non-scientific socially aware members opinion should be considered. Transparency thus must exist which would help reduce any controversies
